James Madison Sweeps CAA Women’s Honors with Zhang, Anderson

RICHMOND, Va. – For the second consecutive week, James Madison swimming & diving has swept the Colonial Athletic Association weekly honors as junior Bonnie Zhang was named CAA Swimmer of the Week and sophomore Faith Anderson was honored as the CAA Diver of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.

Starting the weekend at Richmond on Jan. 26, Zhang placed second in the 100 and 200 backstroke while also placing first in the 50 freestyle with a season-best time of 23.28. The next day against Marshall, Zhang broke the Savage Natatorium pool record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.34. She also placed first with a time of 55.97 in the 100 backstroke.

Anderson posted NCAA Zone qualifying scores in each of her four dives over the weekend. At Richmond, Anderson placed first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 288.01 and earned a second-place finish in the 1-meter with a 289.27 mark. Returning to James Madison on Jan. 27 against Marshall, she placed first in the 3-meter with a season-best score of 299.71 and placed third in the 1-meter with a 276.60.

These awards mark Zhang’s fourth weekly award and Anderson’s second this season.

The Dukes finished their dual season schedule with a 9-2-1 overall record. Heading into the CAA Championships in a few weeks, JMU is 4-0 against conference opponents this season.
