IUPUI Sweeps 1 Mtr Board, While Ball State Sweeps 3 Mtr, In Diving Dual

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI diving team competed for the first time in 2022 as they hosted the Ball State Cardinals Thursday afternoon. The day was highlighted by freshman Alex Scott‘s top scores in the men’s platform event and men’s 1mtr. Sadie Smith showed a strong performance with a first-place finish in the women’s 1 mtr.

First up for the Jags was Smith, Deirdre Leib and Gillian Karsten in the women’s 1 mtr. Smith earned the first-place finish with a score of 287.85. Leib and Karsten came in fifth and sixth respectively. In the women’s 3 mtr event, Smith took second place with a score of 257.33.

For the men, Scott led the way with his career-high score in the men’s platform event with a score of 323.55. With his high score he qualified for the NCAA Zone C Diving. Scott also earned a first-place finish in the 1 mtr event with a score of 288.23, followed closely by freshman Adam Schmehl with a score of 282.38 to seal a second-place finish. Levi Vorreyer took fourth and Kyle Huehn earned fifth. In the men’s 3 mtr dive, Adam Schmehl placed second with a score of 292.80 and Huehn followed in third with a score of 265.35.

The IUPUI women’s swim team will be back in the pool tomorrow when they host Butler and Indiana State at 2:00 PM.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – – The Ball State diving program swept the 3M competition in a friendly dual meet versus IUPUI Thursday afternoon at the IUPUI Natatorium.

Freshman diver Ashleigh Provan turned in her second NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark of the season, taking top honors on the 3M board with a career-best score of 293.76. Earlier in the season, Provan turned in a 1M NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark of 276.00 n her Lewellen Aquatic Center debut versus Ohio (Oct. 30).

Provan was also Ball State’s top female diver on the 1M board, placing second overall with a score of 255.38.

On the men’s side, senior Hunter Ongay led the charge, winning the 3M competition with a season-best score of 294.80. A two-time Mid-American Conference Men’s Diver of the Week selection so far this season, Ongay was also Ball State’s top performer on the 1M board, placing third with a score of 282.00

The Ball State women’s swimming and diving program returns to action Saturday with a 3 p.m. contest versus Eastern Michigan at the University of Michigan’s Canham Natatoruim.

The men’s team, along with the women, next competes Friday, Jan. 28 in a swimming-only dual at Bellarmine University.
