Hannah Bellard was the biggest name to scratch on Day 2 of the 2026 Women’s Big Ten Championships, pulling out of the 100 fly for the 400 IM. She was the 5th seed in the 100 with her season best of 51.40, which also stands as her best time, but is 3rd in the 400 IM in 4:05.92.
Having split 1:41.54 on the second leg of Michigan’s conference-record-setting 800 free relay last night, Bellard is continuing the torrid form she has shown all season long. She broke the Big Ten record in the 200 fly in a dual with Indiana at the start of January, swimming 1:50.72 for PB of more than a second, and will be the favorite in that event on Saturday.
USC’s Ashley McMillan is the other top-ten seed to be missing today, scratching her 5th seed in the 400 IM. She is the 3rd seed in the 100 breast later in the session, and split a season-best 26.88 on the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay for USC last night.
Like Bellard, OSU’s Sienna Angove has also scratched an event in favor of the 400 IM, forgoing the 200 free where she was the 11th seed in 1:45.10. She was the 10th seed in the 400 IM with her season best of 4:11.00, but won the event last year in 4:03.92. She split a 1:42.43 on the 800 free relay last night, so looks in good form.
Gena Jorgenson of Nebraska scratched her 21st seed in the 200 free, having notched 1:44.82 leading off the Cornhuskers 800 free relay last night which would have put her 11th on the psych sheets, just ahead of Angove. She also is entered in the 400 IM, seeded 19th in 4:14.40 although her best time is a 4:11.51 from 2024 NCAAs.
Ekaterina Nikonova from Northwestern has prioritised the 100 fly, where she is the 10th seed, over the 200 free, where she was ranked 14th on the psych sheets.
