GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 3/11/2022

In our GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming series, we celebrate swimmers of every age and experience level with age group profiles of some recent results.

Alaia Sloan, 11, Falfins Swimming (FLFN-CO): Back in late February at the Colorado Age Group State Championships, Sloan established victories and personal best times in the 100 free (54.39), 200 free (1:59.04) and 100 fly (1:01.18). The 11-year-old out of Falfins Swimming ranks among the top-10 in the nation this season for swimmers her age in eight events, including holding #3 ranks in the 100 free and 200 IM.

Colin Zhang, 16, Glenbrook Swim Club (GSC-IL): Zhang climbed up the all-time rankings in the boys’ 15-16 age group at the Illinois SC Senior Championships in Lincolnshire, clocking 1:57.49 in the 200 breast to rank 22nd all-time and 54.36 to sit 37th in age group history. Zhang had set his previous best in the 100 breast (54.79) just the week prior, while his PB in the 200 coming into the meet was 2:02.12.

Lily King, 15, Mount Pleasant Aqua Club (MPAC-AM): King won a pair of WPIAL high school titles as a freshman last week, winning the women’s 50 free (22.74) and 100 free (50.03) in personal best times. The Mount Pleasant Aqua Club swimmer now ranks sixth in the 50 free and 12th in the 100 free among 15-year-olds for the 2021-22 season.

Dillon Brigman, 13, Bolles School Sharks (BSS-FL): Brigman hit new best times in all six freestyle events, plus the 400 IM, at the Florida Age Group Championships, including putting up some top-ranked times in the distance free races. Brigman clocked 4:40.45 in the 500, 9:36.85 in the 1000 and 16:00.97 in the 1650, ranking him 33rd, 27th and 22nd all-time among 13-year-old boys, respectively.

Blakely Hammel, 13, Swim Jax (SJAX-FL): Hammel recorded best times in six events at the Florida Age Group Championships, highlighted by a 2:05.03 effort in the 200 IM. That time ranks Hammel fifth in the 2021-22 season among 13-year-old girls.
