Georgia High School State Champion Avery Bargeron Commits to Auburn

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Avery Bargeron from the Dynamo Swim Club in Atlanta has verbally committed to Auburn University. Currently a junior at The Lovett School, Bargeron will arrive at Auburn in the fall of 2021.

Bargeron is the defending Georgia High School 1A-5A (smaller schools) State Champion in the 100 fly. Her time of 53.98 at that meet was the fastest across all of the state’s classifications.

Auburn head coach Gary Taylor has hit Atlanta hard in his recruiting trail, especially on the men’s side – the school lies only 90 minutes from the city. Also in the class of 2021 from Dynamo is Andrew Simmons. Other current members of the Auburn team from Dynamo include Seth Maschmeier and Brooks Merkle.

Bargeron’s Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 24.17
  • 100 free – 52.24
  • 200 free – 1:52.00
  • 500 free – 5:14.54
  • 100 back – 55.24
  • 200 back – 2:03.77
  • 100 fly – 53.98
  • 200 fly – 1:59.97

Her best long course time in the 100 fly, a 1:02.26, is a Summer Junior Nationals cut.

Bargeron’s best time in the 100 yard fly would have just-missed scoring at last year’s SEC Championship meet by about two-tenths of a second. The 100 fly was a weak event for Auburn last year, scoring only 17 points at the SEC Championships (and all 17 of those points will be graduated by the time Bargeron arrives on campus).

The Tigers addressed that weakness in a big way in the class of 2020, bringing in a number of butterfliers including Payton Marvin (55.6), Meghan Lee (54.2), Emma Steckiel (55.9), Elysse Pardus (53.9), and Abby Gibbons (53.1).

Does Auburn own GA now? Lots of GA taking the short trip west. Congrats, Coach Taylor!

In what aspect? Bama men are much better than Auburn and men. Women are about equal in terms of NCAA rankings and projected placing based on seeds and number of qualifiers.

Recruiting is what he is referring to.
