Several elite swimmers were in action last weekend at the Indy Summer Cup, using the event as a tune-up of sorts with the 2025 World Championships on the horizon at the end of July in Singapore.
One of the marquee showdowns came in the women’s 200 freestyle, which featured Anna Peplowski and Simone Manuel, both of whom raced the final of the event at the U.S. National Championships just under a month earlier.
Peplowski held the slight lead at the 100, and despite Manuel managing to outsplit her on both 50s coming home, Peplowski held on by a fingernail, out-touching the Olympic gold medalist by two one-hundredths of a second.
Peplowski clocked 1:56.88 after setting a personal best of 1:55.82 at Nationals, while Manuel’s time of 1:56.90 was faster than she was at Nationals and marked a new season-best.

At Nationals, Peplowski placed 4th in the 200 free to earn a berth on the U.S. World Championship team in the 4×200 free relay, while Manuel was 7th in the 200 free but landed a spot on the team after placing 3rd in the 100 free.
Manuel also won the women’s 50 free (24.94) and 100 free (53.28) at the Indy Summer Cup, while Peplowski topped the 400 free (4:10.71) and added personal best times in the 50 free (25.29) and 200 IM (2:16.17).
