Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Robert Alvarez, a Florida native, will be staying in state for the fall, swimming at the University of Tampa Spartans.
“My recruiting process was really tough, so when the University of Tampa became a considerable option, I knew it was God putting me on my path.”
Alvarez attended G Holmes Braddock High School where he was a six-time individual finalist at the FHSAA 4A State Championship meet, swimming the 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM all three years he qualified. As a senior, he earned his two highest finishes, touching in 56.39 in the 100 breast to finish 4th and 1:52.91 in the 200 IM to pick up 7th.
He dropped more time in the 100 breaststroke at the FGC Senior Championships in March, swimming 56.09 in prelims to qualify 3rd for the final where he went 56.25 to finish 6th. He also dropped time in the 50 free (22.26) and the 400 IM (4:00.68).
He most recently swam at the Speedo Futures Championships in Ocala, where he set a new personal best in the 100 breast finals, stopping the clock in 1:05.62 for 21st place overall.
Alvarez’s Best SCY Times
- 100 Breast- 56.09
- 200 Breast- 2:02.08
- 200 IM- 1:52.91
- 400 IM- 4:00.68
The University of Tampa is a Division II school that competes in the Sunshine Conference where they were the team champions last year. They went on to finish 2nd at the NCAA Championships in March, thanks in large part to the performance from sophomore Jacob Hamlin.
Alvarez’s best event for the Spartans is the 200 breaststroke, where he would have been 3rd last year, but both of the men ahead of him have graduated, so he will be crucial in scoring points in the event. His 2:02.08 would have qualified 10th for the ‘B’ final at the 2025 Sunshine Conference Championships.
He also looks to score in the 100 breaststroke and the 400 IM. His 56.09 in the 100 breast would have been 5th on the team last year, but two of the athletes who were ahead of him have graduated, and 14th in the individual prelims at the conference championships
In the 400 IM, he would be 2nd on the team, and his time would have been tied for 7th at conference.
He sits just outside of scoring position in the 200 IM, where his 1:52.91 would have been 12th on the team and 21st at conference.
Alvarez joins a recruiting class of 11 other men including Roberto Zarate, Walker Lanoue, Nick Cavic, Kasparas Venslauskas, Riqui Iturbe Cosano, Alfredo Dominguez, Julian Ithier, Tristan Bonnet-Eymard, Cody Ano, Hudson Evans, and Mathias Holmann.
