Dual-Sport Athlete Kalin Wiltrout Commits To Swim At Penn State (2023)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Kalin Wiltrout of Grand Rapids, Michigan, has announced her commitment to swim and study at Penn State University this upcoming fall. Wiltrout is currently wrapping up her senior year at East Kentwood High School, where she participates in both swimming and track.

As a member of the track team, Wiltrout competes in pole vault, long jump, and the 400m run. On the swimming side of things, she focuses on sprint freestyle and breaststroke races, and trains year-round with Grand Rapids Aquatics.

I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to Penn State University!! Thank you to everyone who has supported me during this process and I look forward to being a Nittany Lion!! 🤍💙”

She most recently competed at the Pro Swim Series stop in Westmont, where she took 68th overall in the 100m freestyle (1:00.95). She also got some long course racing in at Speedo Sectionals in Indianapolis in March, with her highest finish being 42nd in the 100m free (59.74). Additionally, she competed in the 50m free (27.85), 100m back (1:11.77), 100m breast (1:21.77), and 100m fly (1:08.82).

At the Michigan High School State Championships in November, Wiltrout recorded two top-8 finishes individually. She took 4th in the 50 freestyle in a best time of 23.72, as well as 6th in the 100 freestyle with a 52.05 in finals. She lowered her 100 free time even further less than a month later at Winter Juniors – East, where she clocked a 51.93 to take 75th.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 23.72
  • 100 free – 51.93
  • 50 breast – 30.36
  • 100 breast – 1:05.08

Penn State is coming off of an 8th place finish at the 2023 Big Ten Championships. The only swimmer to post a top-8 finish this year was freshman Catherine Meisner, who took 7th in the 200 freestyle with a 1:45.96.

Penn State’s sprint squad was led by senior Emma Harvey in the 50 free and junior Catherine Stanford in the 100. Harvey finished 15th in the 50 free with a 22.67 in finals, while Stanford logged a 49.34 to take 19th in the 100. Coming in just behind Stanford in 20th was senior Abbie Amdor (49.55).

Penn State is led by head coach Tim Murphy, who recently completed his 10th season at the helm of the program. With her commitment, Wiltrout joins Sienna Karp, Ryleigh Collins and Morgan Jenny in the Nittany Lions’ incoming class of 2027. Karp is a breaststroker, while Collins and Jenny swim freestyle.

There are no stats around her track achievements. Regardless, great example of time management and congratulations on the commitment.

If you want some fun track stats about a different swimmer, McKenzie Siroky who was previously committed to play hockey D1 and now plans to swim for Tennessee happens to be an All-State shot putter after literally 2 months in the sport
