FAIRFAX, Va. – Records continued to fall on Friday as Will CountieGianmichael D’Alessandro and the men’s 200 medley relay of Countie, D’Alessandro, Henderson Louviere and Sean Cannon set program and meet records, respectively, at the Patriot Invitational at the McKay Natatorium.

The Seahawks continue to lead the men’s meet while the women remain in third. The men pushed their lead over Florida Atlantic to 91 points while the women stand behind leader Drexel and FAU.

Countie, a senior, fashioned a time of 47.42 seconds to break the previous mark of 48 seconds, set by current UNCW assistant coach Valtteri Halonen in 2013 and equaled one year later by Michael Baric. The time was also a meet record.

UNCW continued to see strong results from its men’s relays as the 200 Medley Relay clocked in with a time of 1:28.26, besting the meet record of 1:29.30 set by the Seahawks last season.

Rounding out the record-breaking swims for the Seahawks was D’Alessandro, whose time of 54.8 was a meet record. Josh Rigsbee, who finished second in the race, also bested the previous record time with a mark of 54.90.

Junior Evan Arsenault won the women’s 200 Freestyle when she posted a time of 1:50.31. Gracie Steelhammer and Hannah Copeland, both freshmen, gave the Seahawks a sweep of the top three spots in the race.

Nicole Costello and Kolbein Bjugan both finished third in the women’s 1-meter and the men’s 3-meterboards, respectively.

The meet concludes on Saturday with the preliminaries kicking off at 10 a.m. and the finals starting up at 6 p.m.
