The men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams both defeated Fordham on Saturday, October 21 at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium in Storrs, Conn. The women’s team won by a 155-140 count while the men’s team won 157-135.

“Overall it was a good step for our team,” head coach Chris Maiello said. “We raced on consecutive days and were arguably better on our second day. Typically that’s a good sign we are training well. We are looking forward to getting a few weeks of training in before our next meet at SCS.”

¬Georgia Apostolu backed up her strong performance yesterday with two more victories. Apostolu won the 100 Back (56.46) and the 200 Back (2:03.70) marking the second-straight dual-win afternoon. Eliza Manning also put together a dual-win afternoon, finishing in the top spot in the 50 Free (24.22) and the 100 Free (52.17).

Julie Hu and Ryan Dulaney rounded out the winners for UConn as Hu won the 200 Breast with a time of 2:22.83 and Dulaney won the 500 Free with a time of 5:09.47.

On the men’s side, Will Kearsey was once again a dual winner, earning the top spot in the 100 Back (50.73) and the 200 Back (1:51.79). Markus Hunter also won a pair of events against Ram swimmers on Saturday, wnning the 200 Breast with a time of 2:05.88 and the 100 Back with a time of 57.66.

Joshua Wroblewski was the winner of Saturday’s 500 Free (4:38.05), Karl Bishop outlasted everyone in the 1000 Free (9:51.36) and Kyle Kimura won the 200 Butterfly with a time of 1:55.51.

Daniel Kinney helped the men secure victory with wins in the 1-Meter and 3-Meter Dive.

Both squads are back in action on Friday, November 3 when the team travels down I-91 to take on Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. The meet begins at 5 p.m.
