For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Distance freestyle specialist Olivia Wenert has announced her commitment to swim for the University of Cincinnati, beginning in the fall of 2026.
Wenert grew up in White Oak, located in northwest Cincinnati, and lived there for nine years. She currently lives in Virginia, where she trains with NOVA of Virginia Aquatics and attends Deep Run High School.
Wenert comes from a family of swimmers. Her mother swam at the University of North Carolina, and her father competed for Wright State University. He is now the head senior coach at NOVA.
Wenert was a two-time champion at the 2025 VHSL Region 6A Championship (SCY) in February, representing Deep Run High School. As a junior, she won the 500 free (5:00.21) and the 100 fly (56.68).
In March, Wenert competed at the NCSA Spring Championships (SCY), where she posted her fastest time in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:03.31 to place 23rd overall. That swim qualifies her for the upcoming NCSA Summer Championships.
She also had strong performances in distance freestyle events, finishing 11th in the 1650 free (16:55.79), 13th in the 1000 free (10:06.81), and 23rd in the 500 free (4:58.36).
Wenert posted her lifetime best in the 500 free at the 2024 Speedo Winter Junior Championships – East (SCY) in December, clocking a 4:55.31. She also competed in the 1650 free (16:56.92) and the 200 fly (2:05.25).
Earlier in the year, in February, Wenert earned lifetime bests in the 1000 free and 1650 free at the 2024 VSI SC Senior Champs (SCY). Her fastest 1000 free time, a 10:05.44 split, came during her mile race. She finished the event in 16:42.49, placing 2nd overall. Wenert also advanced to finals in three additional events, placing 6th in the 500 free (4:59.86), 6th in the 200 fly (2:04.51), and 13th in the 100 fly (56.45).
Top Yard Times
- 500 Free – 4:55.31
- 1000 Free – 10:05.44
- 1650 Free – 16:42.49
- 200 Fly – 2:03.31
Cincinnati placed 6th at the 2025 Women’s Big 12 Conference Championships, a drop from their 4th-place finish the previous year. Wenert has the chance to make a significant impact, particularly in the 1650 free. Her best time would have placed 8th at last season’s conference meet and would have been the fastest on Cincinnati’s roster.
Wenert will join Cincinnati’s campus alongside fellow recruits Macartney Mahler, Riley Miller, Alexis Schmidt, Nina Heron, Lily Swope, and McKenzie Jenny. Jenny also has the potential to strengthen the team’s distance group with her 500 free time of 4:53.73.
Besides swimming, Wenert enjoys playing pickleball. She is currently interning in a class that involves visiting elementary schools to assist teachers in the classroom. She was also nominated for the National Honor Society.
