Chris Guiliano edged out Texas teammate Luke Hobson in the last heat of the men’s 200 freestyle this morning at the U.S. Open, claiming the top seed for the final and setting a new meet record in the process.
Guiliano put up a time of 1:45.91 to take down the U.S. Open meet record of 1:45.92, first set by former Texas star Townley Haas in 2019 and then matched by Indiana’s Rafael Miroslaw in 2023.
Split Comparison
| Haas, 2019 | Miroslaw, 2023 | Guiliano, 2025 |
| 24.65 | 24.51 | 24.29 |
| 50.98 (26.33) | 50.82 (26.31) | 51.53 (27.24) |
| 1:18.41 (27.43) | 1:18.30 (27.48) | 1:18.72 (27.19) |
| 1:45.92 (27.51) | 1:45.92 (27.62) | 1:45.91 (27.19) |
Guiliano was also just 15 one-hundredths shy of Yannick Agnel‘s Texas pool record of 1:45.76 set in January 2014.
The swim stands up as the third-fastest of Guiliano’s career, only trailing his 1:45.38 best time from the 2024 Olympic Trials–which earned him an individual berth on the Olympic team–and his 1:45.73 from the U.S. National Championships this past summer.
The 22-year-old moves into 5th in the world so far this season.

Great back half for him
At least he’ll hold onto it for a few hours, unlike when Marchand got his taken away immediately by Hobson.
