Andra Robertson, from Ames, Iowa, has announced her commitment to continue both her academic and athletic careers at Iowa State University, beginning in the fall of 2025. Staying close to home, she’ll remain in Ames as she transitions from Ames Senior High School and Cyclone Swim Club to Iowa State’s collegiate program.

Robertson, a breaststroke specialist, wrapped up her short course season at the Iowa Short Course Championships, where she recorded multiple lifetime bests. Her top finish came in the 100 breast, where she lowered her best time from 1:03.93 to 1:03.35 in prelims, then improved again to 1:02.84 in the final to earn the silver medal. In total, she dropped more than a full second over the course of the day.
In addition to that performance, she earned bronze in the 200 breast with a time of 2:19.73, marking her first swim under 2:20, with her previous best being 2:22.09. She also placed 4th in the 200 IM with a season-best 2:07.71, which, while strong, remained short of her personal record of 2:05.56. Furthermore, she touched 6th in the 400 IM, posting a time of 4:36.97 after setting a PB of 4:35.41 in prelims.
Of note, Robertson notched a time of 24.45 in the 50 free prelims, ranking 10th overall; however, she elected to forgo the final.

Led by head coach Matt Leach, Iowa State is a Division I program competing in the Big 12 Conference. This past season, the Cyclones finished 10th out of 10 teams at the conference championships.
To qualify for finals at the Big 12 meet, swimmers had to post times of 1:02.41 in the 100 breast and 2:15.67 in the 200 breast, which would have left Robertson just outside the cutoff in the 100. Given that she dropped a full second at state last season, even half of that improvement during her freshman year could help her become an individual scorer in her debut campaign.
On the team itself, Robertson would have ranked 4th in both the 100 and 200 breast this past season. The Cyclones boast a strong group of underclass breaststrokers, led by freshmen Grace Swoboda (1:01.02/2:13.44) and Anya Peck (1:02.64/2:13.82), with sophomore Abbi Crum also close behind with times of 1:02.71 and 2:15.39.
Robertson’s 100 breast time puts her solidly in the top pack, while her 200 breast shows clear room for improvement. She’ll be pushed not only by these three but also by incoming freshman Olivia Moore, who boasts personal bests of 1:02.85 and 2:02.39, times nearly identical to Robertson’s.
Joining Robertson in the pool this fall will be Hayden Bailey, Tessa Moore, Brooke Gill, Kendall Mallers, Evelyn Mulvihill, Kendall Schindler, and the aforementioned Olivia Moore, all of whom should provide strong training partners over the next four years.
