For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Connecticut’s Melissa Geiger will continue her swimming career at Boston College in the fall of 2026.

A distance freestyle and butterfly specialist, Geiger competes for Greenwich High School and the Greenwich YWCA Dolphins.

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Boston College! I would like to thank my coaches, family, and friends for all of their support. I would also like to thank Coach Bruno and Coach Dara for this incredible opportunity. Go Eagles! 🦅”

Representing Greenwich High School, Geiger turned in a strong performance at the 2025 CIAC State Open Championship (SCY) in November, placing 3rd in the 500 free (5:05.60) and 6th in the 100 fly (57.87). She also contributed to two runner-up relay finishes, splitting 26.02 on the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay and 53.54 on the 400 free relay.

The month prior, Geiger posted lifetime bests at the FCIAC Girls Championship (SCY), capturing the 100 fly title in 56.97 and placing 3rd in the 200 free (1:54.28).

In March, Geiger recorded lifetime bests of 5:01.69 in the 500 free and 10:20.05 in the 1000 free, winning both events at the 2025 NC TEAM Sun Kissed Championships (SCY) while competing for the Greenwich Dolphins. She also advanced to finals in five additional events, finishing 2nd in the 200 fly (2:06.60) and 200 back (2:05.82), 5th in the 100 fly (57.55) and 100 back (59.53), and 6th in the 200 free (1:54.47).

Geiger recorded her fastest 1650 free time of 17:18.09 at the 2024 PV NCAP Invitational (SCY) in December, placing 7th. She also advanced to finals in three other events, finishing 7th in the 1000 free (10:26.88), 16th in the 500 free (5:06.64), and 20th in the 200 fly (2:07.85).

Geiger was a finalist at the 2025 NCSA Summer Championships (LCM) in July, posting best times while placing 14th in the 200 fly (2:20.87), 27th in the 400 free (4:28.65), and 30th in the 100 fly (1:03.81).

Top Yard Times

  • 200 Free – 1:54.28
  • 500 Free – 5:01.69
  • 1000 Free – 10:20.05
  • 1650 Free – 17:18.09
  • 100 Fly – 56.97

The Boston College women’s team, led by 12-time Olympic medalist and former world-record holder Dara Torres, placed 15th out of 15 teams at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Championships.

Geiger has the potential to be a major asset for the program in distance freestyle and butterfly events. Her 1000 free and 1650 free times would have been the fastest on the team this season, while her 100 fly time would have ranked 2nd. Freshman Sophia LaBarre recorded the Eagles’ fastest 100 fly time this season at 56.86.

Geiger will arrive on campus this fall alongside fellow recruits Grace Petrakis, Caroline Kilty, Meg Dahlin, Kelci Walsh, Vanessa Alvarado, Carley Kaplan, and Avery Cunneen. Walsh and Kilty should provide strong training partners for Geiger in the distance events. Walsh owns lifetime bests of 5:00.19 in the 500 free and 10:14.64 in the 1000 free, while Kilty has posted times of 5:00.10 and 10:22.64, respectively.

When she swims the 1000 and 1650, someone will have to be Geiger’s counter.
