Chad Le Clos will look to continue his recent 50m fly dominance at the world championships.
I believe that Daiya Seto will be faster than he was in Barcelona and swim a 4:07 to take the title.
Etiene Medeiros of Brazil has recently burst onto the swimming scene, posting some incredible times in the 50 back.
With Phelps and Hagino absent, Ryan Lochte is looking for his 4th consecutive title.
Missy Franklin is the 200 backstroke World Record holder in the 200 meter backstroke in long course, but hasn’t matched that time since the 2012 Olympic Games.
Missy Franklin is the defending World and Olympic Champion in the 100 back, but Emily Seebohm has been consistently sub-59.
Rikke Pedersen of Denmark has emerged as the top 200 breastroker in the world the last few years.
Yuliya Efimova has the most impressive resume of anyone in the field in the 50m breastroke. She is the two-time world champion (2009 & 2013) and was the runner up in 2011.
1. Ruta Meilutyte, LTU – 1:04.57; 2. Yuliya Efimova, RUS – 1:05.17; 3. Kanako Watanabe, JPN – 1:05.69
Katie Ledecky is the undisputed favourite in this event and it does not appear that she will be challenged in the slightest.
Ever since defeating defending champion and heavy favourite Rebecca Adlington on her home soil, Ledecky has been in control of the event.
With Katie Ledecky all but guaranteed a gold medal in this event, the race will be between Mireia Belmonte Garcia, Jazmin Carlin, and Lauren Boyle for the silver medal.
Ledecky has shown a fierce tenacity to go after races with no fear and to do absolutely whatever it takes to win. Both Franklin and Ledecky will be in for a challenge.
Last year there were three swimmers who went sub-53, led by Cate Campbell at 52.62, and two this year with Bronte Campbell and Femke Heemskerk tied at 52.69. Based on the fast performances the last few years, we should see some more 52 second swims this summer.
Cate Campbell once again has the top time in the world for 2015 at 24.03. Based off her recent results and experiences, I think we will see Cate Campbell at the top of the podium in Kazan.
