Indiana freshman Liberty Clark has had a head-turning start to her NCAA career so far with the Hoosiers. Coming from a limited swimming background where she never really swam club year-round (but did play volleyball as well), Clark has emerged as one of the top freestylers in the nation after just a few months in college. Nationally, she is currently 11th in the 50 (21.54), 6th in the 100 (46.83), and 4th in the 200 (1:41.27). Read more about Clark’s background in swimming here.

Just found out her mom is Haley Cope? She’s definitely got the genetics for a high ceiling. I’m excited to watch her progress.
Haley Cope is old enough to have a freshman in college?!?!?! I recruited Haley…I feel super old! Keep on rockin, Liberty!
This should be a case study in the importance of balance when training high school kids! Literature has said forever that playing multiple sports & training-social balance are important factors in long-term success. Good on her club coaches!
4 days a week, low yardage and making JR Nats… nice.
As an Alum, Ray loves the low yardage under developed background.
Best of luck and Go Hoosiers
It makes sense. The kids from the high volume programs have a place (you know they won’t buckle under the training) but there’s also a “What you see is what you get” factor in many cases, since they’ve been training like a D1 swimmer since they were 15.
I coached at a pretty high volume program that finished in the top 20 national rankings every year. The kids who did well in D1 were usually the ones who already had NCAA qualifying times as incoming freshmen. Almost all of the kids who were taken as prospects struggled to improve and ended up getting cut.
Time drops like Mallory Comerford. Exciting to see people grow in college to reach their potential 🙂
Going back to her commitment article… wow she has dropped a load of time!
Holy cow. Here’s the link. https://swimswam.com/two-sport-athlete-part-time-swimmer-liberty-clark-chooses-indiana-for-fall-2025/
Yup. Also great call by Braden on the huge potential she had once she finally started training year-round
Color me green with envy
😄👍👍👍👍
Oh wow. That 200 Free should really pop as she builds her base, that’s scary for everyone else. Good for her, I look forward to seeing her development.
