The 2025 Grand Prix Puchar Polski took place in Warsaw over the weekend with several notable Polish athletes taking to the short course pool to rack up multiple wins.
Among them was 21-year-old Adela Piskorska who picked up victories across the women’s 100m back and 200m back events.
In the former, the World University Games multi-medalist turned in a time of 58.47 to get the job done ahead of Paulina Reda and Varvara Hlushchenko who captured the minor medals.
Reda hit 58.87 as the runner-up while Hlushchenko took bronze in 59.80.
Piskorska owns a lifetime best of 57.30 in this event, a time she logged as medley relay lead-off at last year’s Short Course World Championships in Budapest.
As for the 200m back race, Piskorska scorched the field, touching in 2:07.29 to top the podium by nearly eight seconds. Her PB remains at the 2:04.43 national record she established last year.
Piskorska was denied the backstroke trifecta, however, as Hlushchenko grabbed the gold in the 50m sprint. She put up 27.17 ahead of Reda who snagged the silver in 27.27 and Piskorska settled for bronze in 27.31.
Kornelia Fiedkiewicz snagged the top spot in both the women’s 50m and 100m freestyle races.
Fiedkiewicz, who trains at Loughborough University in England, logged times of 24.47 and 53.56 to decisively beat her competitors. Her times represented the sole outings of the field to clear the 25-second and 54-second barriers, respectively.
On the men’s side, Adrian Jaskiewicz posted the fastest times in both the 100m and 200m butterfly events.
The 23-year-old got to the wall in 51.72 in the shorter distance, beating the pack by over a second. That was just under a second outside the lifetime best of 50.60 he produced in the prelims last year in Budapest.
The 200m fly saw Jaskiewicz put up 1:55.11 to narrowly defeat Damien Chrzanowski who touched just .27 behind in 1:55.38. That paired with the silver he earned in the 100m, courtesy of his effort of 52.81.
Additional Notes
- Barbara Lesniewska etched a new Polish Age Record onto the books in the women’s 100m IM. The 14-year-old nabbed gold in 1:01.65 to erase Aleksandra Knop‘s former benchmark of 1:02.16 from 2017.
- Veterans Marcin Cieslak and Radoslaw Kawecki were both in the water over the course of the meet. 33-year-old Cieslak registered a time of 50m fly for gold and also earned 50m free bronze in 22.02. Gold in the splash n’ dash went to Piotr Ludwiczak who hit 21.93 ahead of Illia Linnyk who scored silver in 21.98. 34-year-old Kawecki nabbed the 200m back gold in 1:56.97 to get to the wall over 2 seconds ahead of his competitors.
