Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Asia Salvato has announced her commitment to continue both her education and swimming career at Iowa State University, where she will join the team in the fall of 2026. Salvato hails from Imola, Italy, where she attends Istituto Tecnico Scarabelli and trains year-round with Imolanuoto.
Salvato won’t be the first member of her family to swim in the NCAA, as her sister Sofia competed at Virginia Tech as a freshman last year and is transferring to Iowa State for this season.
The younger Salvato confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:
I chose Iowa State because I felt like it was my place, where I can evolve to do better.
Salvato specializes in butterfly, with long course bests of 1:01.91 in the 100 and 2:14.42 in the 200. Coming from Europe, she has yet to record any times in a short course yards pool.
The Italian most recently competed this past July at the historic Setti Colli meet, held at the iconic Foro Italico in Rome. First established in 1963, Setti Colli is the oldest annual international swim meet in the world—and remains highly competitive today. There, she touched 25th in the 200 fly with a time of 2:18.43 and finished 41st in the 100 fly in 1:03.56.
While she has focused almost exclusively on butterfly over the past year, she’s also an accomplished IMer. She posted a time of 2:18.43 in the 200 IM at the Campionato Regionali Primaverili meet in March 2023, and went 5:02.24 in the 400 IM at the Campionati Regionali Estivi competition in July 2023.
Top LCM Times (SCY conversions):
- 100 Butterfly: 1:01.91 (54.51)
- 200 Butterfly: 2:14.42 (1:58.57)
- 200 IM: 2:18.43 (2:01.82)
- 400 IM: 5:02.24 (4:26.52)
Led by head coach Matt Leach, Iowa State is a Division I program competing in the Big 12 Conference. This past season, the Cyclones finished 10th out of 10 teams at the conference championships.
To earn a spot in at least the ‘C’ final last year, it took times of 55.09/2:00.05 in the 100/200 fly and 2:02.52/4:24.08 in the 200/400 IM. Based on these benchmarks, Kaczmark appears to be a finals contender in the 100s and 200s, assuming the transition to short course yards goes well.
Graduate student Winter Craig led the way in the 200 fly with a 14th-place clocking of 2:01.16 at Big 12s. In the shorter event, senior Carley Caughron (54.64), Craig (55.08), and sophomore Keirlyn Mullica (55.36) were closely bunched. Sophomore Emma Kuhn (2:01.51) and senior Mallory Miller (4:18.06) were the Cyclones’ best IMers.
Incoming freshman Kendall Mallers, who owns marks of 55.39 and 2:01.61, will pair with Salvato to provide a big boost to the team’s fly group over the next few years.
Salvato joins Hayden Bailey, Tessa Moore, and Scout McQueen in committing to ISU’s class of 2030.
