Sectionals finalist Max Maycher has announced his verbal commitment to swim for Fordham University beginning in the fall of 2025.
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to Fordham University to continue my athletic and academic career. Thank you to all of my family, friends, teammates and coaches for all of the support and encouragement throughout my swim journey. Thank you @njrc.swim @cbaswimming and @fordhamswimdive for giving me this incredible opportunity and I am beyond excited to start this new chapter.”
Maycher was born in Sweden and lived there for four years before moving to the United States. He hopes to swim for the Swedish national team in the years to come.
Maycher graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey, where he was a member of the varsity swimming team all four years. He currently trains year-round with New Jersey Race Club, where he specializes in freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly.
At the 2025 Speedo Sectionals in Ithaca (SCY), Maycher earned a second swim in four of his events. He placed 5th in the 100 breast (55.39) and 10th in the 100 free (45.92), setting personal best times in both events. Maycher also placed 7th in the 50 free (21.02) and 27th in the 100 fly (53.91). Additionally, he finished 24th in the 200 breast (2:07.26) and helped his team to a 5th-place finish in the 200 free relay, 6th-place finish in both the 400 free relay and 200 medley relay, 11th-place finish in the 400 medley relay and 35th-place finish in the 800 free relay.
Last summer, Maycher competed at the Futures Championship – Richmond (LCM), where he posted lifetime best times in all three of his events. He placed 19th in the 100 breast (1:05.23), 49th in the 50 free (24.51) and 68th in the 100 free (54.25). He also helped the New Jersey Race Club to a 14th-place finish in the 400 medley relay and a 15th-place finish in the 400 free relay.
Maycher is a seven-time Shore Conference champion, picking up four victories at the 2025 championship in his final season with the Christian Brothers Academy. He prevailed in the 50 free (21.34) and the 100 breast (57.08). He was also a part of the winning 200 free relay and 200 medley relay teams.
Best Times SCY
- 50 free – 20.78
- 100 free – 45.92
- 200 free – 1:47.40
- 100 breast – 55.39
- 100 fly – 51.09
A Division I Mid-Major program, Fordham competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference; the men’s team placed 7th out of 11 teams at the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championships. To make it back for the ‘B’ finals this past season, it took times of 20.51/45.31/1:40.69 in the 50/100/200 free, 55.81 in the 100 breast and 49.01 in the 100 fly. With Maycher’s current top times, he would have landed in the ‘B’ final in the 100 breast.
On the team itself, Maycher is poised to be Fordham’s 2nd-fastest competitor in the 100 breast and the 3rd-fastest competitor in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly, although that does not account for the other incoming freshmen.
Set to join Maycher in the pool this fall are Radek Cohen (breast/sprint free), Quinn MacPhail (IM/distance free), Ben Ohrr (back/free), Anthony Sanchez (IM/breast), Richard Wang (free/fly) and Kevin Yum (distance free), all of whom should make for strong training partners over the next four years.
