Frenchman Alexandre Desangles has sent his verbal commitment to Arizona, joining the Wildcats’ program for the 2025 campaign.

Desangles adds plenty of international experience to the Arizona roster, including a recent 6th-place finish in the 50 backstroke (25.14) at the 2025 World University Games. Earlier in the summer at the European U23 Championships, he touched 5th in the 200 back, marking a new lifetime best of 1:58.94, down from his 1:59.17 from the Championnats de France Elite. In 2022, Desangles was a two-time finalist at the European Junior Championships, placing 8th in the 100 back (55.67) and 6th in the 200 back (2:00.71).
Desangles trains with the Dauphins Toulouse OEC, in Toulouse, France, who produced World Champs semifinalist Antoine Herlem, who finished 16th in the 200 back (1:57.45).

The Wildcats compete in the Big 12 conference. At the 2025 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, they finished 2nd out of 7 teams on the men’s side.
Desangles’ converted time in the 100 back would have placed 8th in the championship final at the 2025 Big 12 Championships, while his 200 back would have been good enough for 11th in the event.
His converted time in the 200 back also would have been inside the top 60 times nationally in the NCAA last season.
Based on last year’s Arizona team, Desangles’ converted times would have ranked him as the 3rd fastest 100 backstroker, and the 3rd fastest 200 back performer for 2025.
Desangles will join fellow 2025 recruits Aaron Gordon, Noah Caiserman, Wells Cloud, Benjamin Butler, and Duncan Henderson in Tucson this fall.
