Lana Macchi from Virginia Beach, Virginia, will remain in-state to swim and study at Virginia Wesleyan University beginning in the 2025-26 school year. She told SwimSwam:
“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to Virginia Wesleyan University and further excel my swim career and academics through the Batten Honors College.”
Macchi attended First Colonial High School and swam for the girls’ varsity swim team. She competed in the 100 free and 100 breast and qualified for the VHSL Class 5 State Championships in the 100 free (junior and senior seasons) and in the 100 free and 100 breast (sophomore year). That year, she finaled in both events and clocked PBs of 54.84 in the 100 free and 1:09.86 in the 100 breast.
Macchi swims year-round with TIDE Swimming and specializes in sprint free and breaststroke.

Virginia Wesleyan is a member of NCAA Division III’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The women finished 6 out of 11 teams at the 2025 ODAC Championships. Macchi would have scored in the ‘B’ finals of the 100 breast and 200 breast; it took 24.72 in the 50 free and 54.82 in the 100 free to make finals at conference. The ODAC only scores 2 finals at the championship meet.
