#9 Seed Maxime Grousset of France DNS Prelims of the 50 Freestyle

2025 World Championships

France’s Maxime Grousset did not swim the prelims of the men’s 50 free on Friday morning in Singapore. He was the #9 seed coming into the meet with an entry time of 21.60 that he posted at the Olympic Games in Paris last summer. To qualify for semifinals in this event, it took times of 21.91 or better, with a swim-off required for 16th-place later this session.

Grousset became the world champion in the men’s 50 fly earlier this week, throwing down a best time of 22.48 to win by .03. He also placed 7th in the 100 free with a 47.59, which was .26 off of his lifetime best.

At the Paris Olympics, Grousset finished 6th in the semifinal of the 50 free in 21.60, only to scratch out of the final to focus on the 100 fly.

Grousset raced the 100 fly this morning in Singapore, swimming a 51.36 to land himself in a three-way tie for 11th and securing a spot in the semifinals.

Romanian star David Popovici, who already picked up two gold medals this week, did not swim the prelims of the 50 free either. He was seeded 22nd coming into the meet, entered with a 21.83. Popovici has already turned in several top performances this week, becoming the 2025 world champion in both the 100 free (46.51) and 200 free (1:43.50).
