Hubert Kos took the win in a nail-biter of a race in the 200 IM, touching just .07 ahead of Cal’s Destin Lasco. Kos reflected on the growth he’s made since deciding to come to the USA and train with Bob Bowman. That includes winning an OLympic gold medal and now winning his first individual NCAA title.
Everyone knows it, but it’s worth to reiterate for the slow group:
HUNGARIANS ROCK!!!
He gives due respect to his friend Leon, but he was actually on par with him in his outer splits (fly and free), most of that 1.5s deficit is breast and ironically backstroke, which, however, is a product of Leon’s superior (to everyone, really) underwaters, not superior stroke.
I’m really hoping Hubi goes to the next PSS and swims a tapered LC 200IM finally after like 3 years.
Certainly has a public image that is both humble and attractive! His development over the past two years, though, has been astronomical! I’m not surprised he’s such a big ‘impact swimmer’ for UT and at NCAA’s.
Taking down CAL and Lasco made my year. You do not know me Kos, but you made my year!!!!
If the meet is scored out from this point on (Day 2 completed, Days 3 and 4 not started yet), who will win? What are the projected point totals?
I’m thinking that this could be the first of 3 titles for Hubi. This no big favorite this year other than him in the 100back and I don’t think Destin will be able to get him in the 200back.
It could be but Marshall looks strong in the 100, and it looks like Destin will produce something similar to what he swam last year in the 200 back.
“Similar” will not be enough from Lasco this year 😉
Hah! 😀
Agree! I watched Hubi develop last 2 years at ASU. From 2024 NCAAs through Olympics and now this year N
CAAs he is a much improved swimmer!
Forgot he’s still the WJR holder in LCM 2 IM. that was a crazy race and one of the more underrated WJR. Nobody seems like they’re getting near that
Is Williamson still eligible for WJRs?
nope he turned 18 last November. Late birthdays suck for WJR purposes
