2025 Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships
- March 26-29, 2025
- Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center, Federal Way, Washington
- Short Course Yards (25 yards)
- Psych Sheets
The 2025 Men’s NCAA Championships are upon us, and we officially have psych sheets. This means we get to take a closer look at how the meet would score if there was no diving and everyone swam their exact seed times, or at least their exact seed placement.
While anything can happen at the meet, this is the first official look we will get at what the meet might look like in terms of the top teams and what the potential races might be. This year, we could be looking at an exciting race on the men’s side, especially once diving factors in, but based on psych sheets alone, the Texas men are poised to reclaim their top place on the podium after a disappointing Championships last year.
Based on our projections, Texas comes in ahead of Florida outscoring them 480 to 420. Looking at individual points alone, Texas has the potential to score more points than the UVA women with 330 points to the Cavalier’s 334. Once we add relays and diving to these scores the teams could still be close because while the UVA women could win all five relays, the Texas men are far better at diving.
After Texas, Florida sits solidly in 2nd with their 420 points, more than 100 points ahead of 3rd place.
That’s where the team scores get exciting. Without diving, California (292) and Indiana (291.5) have less than half-a-point separating them. Indiana has the clear upper hand when you add diving points, but the team race is shaping up to be close.
Reigning champions Arizona State sit back in 6th place behind Tennessee, scoring a projected 245 points to the Tennessee’s 277.
Thank you to Andrew Mering for compiling this data.

Again, these scores don’t include diving, which is going to have a significant impact on scores. Texas has qualified the maximum number of 18 swimmers to the meet, and if they want to bring any divers they will need to scratch someone. This could impact their point scores to move them even further ahead of Cal, especially with some of their young talent on the boards.
Michigan has the smallest team in the top 10, bringing only seven swimmers to the meet. Six of them are projected to score 67 points, earning Michigan a spot in the top 10 teams.
Florida State is another team that is expected to score well with very few athletes, looking at 11th place with just five athletes who are all potential scorers. FSU has had an exceptional season, and they could more than triple their score from NCAAs last year, where they scored 34 points. This year they are looking at 107 points and a 10 position jump to from 21st to 11th.

Florida has a strong first day, and they are expected to be in front after the relays, thanks to their top seed in the 800 free relay, and their 2nd seed in the 200 medley. After that first day, however, Florida does not have a single day with more projected points than the Longhorns.
Days 2, 3, and 4 are all Texas’ to lose with almost 20 point separating them from Florida every day.
Cal has a very strong day four, with 126 predicted points, but they have a lot of ground to make up with only 49 points on day 3, thanks to their zero points in the men’s 200 freestyle.
Tennessee has strong relays, but there are numerous events where they are looking at no points, including the 800 freestyle relay where zero points would significantly hurt any chances they have of catching up with the teams ahead of them.

No men’s swimmers are seeded to win all three of their individual events. Jordan Crooks is projected to be the top individual point scorer at 57 points, with two 1st seeds in the 50 free and 100 free and a 2nd seed in the 200 freestyle to Luke Hobson.
After Crooks is Rex Maurer who is seeded to score 56, thanks to his two first place spots, the 500 free and 400 IM, and his 3rd place seed in the 1650 behind teammate David Johnston and Cal’s Lucas Henveaux.
Julian Smith is the only other men’s swimmer projected to win two of his individual events. He is seeded first in the 200 IM and in the 100 breast, where he holds the NCAA record. He sits back in 5th overall, though, due to his 9th seed in the 100 freestyle.
Do Divers still count as .5 towards the roster limits?
/
I’d be curious to see up/down based on seeding.
Sure. Top 17 (why 17? I thought 0/10 was kinda funny):
Texas 23/10
Florida 16/10
California 15/4
Indiana 12/16
Tennessee 11/3
Arizona St 10/4
NC State 7/7
Georgia 8/4
Stanford 7/5
Michigan 5/5
Florida St 5/5
Virginia Tech 3/6
Ohio St 2/8
Louisville 3/3
Alabama 3/3
Texas A&M 2/7
Auburn 0/10
Cal normally has the bulk of their athletes full rest at conference or other rest opportunities through the year just like everyone else.
But those on the team who are studly enough to have already swum times during the year likely to make the meet, justfew like that can make a huge difference in the team results.
For example, Destin Lasco. He’s the defending champion in the 200 IM and 200 Back (20 + 20 pts.) but is seeded 17th(0 pts) in the IM and 6th (13 pts) in the 200 Back.40 pts. v 13 pts. His 100 back is seeded 24th (0 pts) whereas his PB would be seeded 3rd (16 pts). 56 ind. pts. v 13 pts. Not… Read more »
If indianas 3 divers finish 1-2-3 in all 3 diving events, that’s 159 points for Indiana. I’m assuming that won’t happen but even this best case still wouldn’t put Indiana in the lead per psych sheet scoring
Florida got three male divers qualified at Zones; two of the guys qualified in both springboards, and the platform specialist, who won by 30+ points, is qualified on all three apparatus.
This looks like one of the more exciting team races that I can remember. There’s a solid argument to be made for any of the top 5 especially when you factor in diving, who rested at conference and the variability of things like relay DQs. So excited to watch.
GOD I wish my NAME were podium right now. Grrrrrrrrr
Lucky me!
