We entered day three of the 2025 Spanish Spring Championships with swimmers diving in for in-season results a few months ahead of this year’s World Championsips.
The 5-day competition represents an important stepping stone on the way to the Spanish World Championship Trials on the agenda for June.
Olympic champion Mireia Belmonte was entered in both the women’s 100m fly and 400m IM but wound up not swimming in either.
Mariana Pacheco took advantage in the former event, stopping the clock at 59.49, with the Portuguese swimmer’s outing marking the sole sub-minute result of the field.
Alba Guillamon Novo was next to the wall in 1:00.13 while Naiara Sobreviela Jimenez rounded out the podium in 1:00.60.
Portugal got on the board again in the women’s 400m IM, courtesy of Camila Rodrigues Rebelo‘s gold medal-worthy time of 4:49.66.
The 21-year-old beat the pack by a small margin, as Clara Martinez de Salinas was less than half a second behind in a time of 4:50.11. Maria Santana Beneyto bagged the bronze in 4:22.55.
Arbidel Gonzalez Alvarez got the job done for gold in the men’s 100m fly, turning in time of 52.55.
That represented the third-fastest time of the 22-year-old’s career, one which boasts a lifetime best of 52.30 from last year’s Olympic Trials.
Alberto Lozano Mateos scored silver in 53.16 and Miguel Martinez Novoa also landed on the podium in 53.32 as the bronze medalist.
Additional Winners
- Nil Cadevall Micolau topped the men’s 50m breast podium in a time of 27.64, a new personal best by .30.
- Jimena Ruiz Sanchez took control of the women’s 50m breast, posting 31.10 for a new Spanish Age Record for 18-year-olds.
- The men’s 1500m saw Cristobal Vargas Trujillo put up a time of 15:18.99 to take the gold. That hacked a good chunk off his previous career-quickest result of 15:24.53 posted last November in Rottderma. Trujillo now ranks 9th in the world on the season.
