Swimming Canada has published selection criteria for 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2014 Pan Pacific Championships, 2014 Junior Pan Pacific Championships and the 2014 Junior Pan Pacific Open Water events.
The teams based on pool events will be selected at the Canadian Pan Pacific and Commonwealth Games Trials which will be held in Victoria, B.C. from April 2nd-5th, 2014.
*The 2014 Youth Olympic Games team will be selected from this event, but the final selection criteria is currently under review by the Canadian Olympic Committee.
In an announcement by Swimming Canada’s High Performance Director John Atkinson included the selection criteria philosophy leading into the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
- Primary selection for individual events will be focused around a world level “Top 16” standard
- For 2014, the “Top 16” standard is based on the 16th place time in prelims from the 2013 Worlds
- Primary selection for free relay events will be focused around a world level “Top 8” standard
- For 2014, the “Top 8” standard is based on the 8th place time in prelims from the 2013 Worlds
- Medley relays will be selected from within the selected team
- We will be using “Age-weighted” standards based on our “On Track” times to fill team quotas for some competitions as a development strategy

For the Commonwealth Games there will be a maximum team size of 30 regardless of gender
For the Pan Pacific pool events there will be a maximum team size of 36 (maximum 26 per gender) with a maximum three swimmers per event.

- 14th June 2014 for the 1 mile
- 16th June 2014 for 10km – this will be the selection race
