Jacob Molacek Adds A Lot Of Options For Auburn With His Verbal Commitment

Nebraskan Jacob Molacek of Greater Omaha Aquatics has verbally committed to the Auburn Tigers. Molacek trains under Tom Beck both in his club swimming, and more recently in his high school swimming, which he just began as a junior. In that first year of high school swimming, for state powerhouse Creighton Prep, he won state titles in both the 200 free and the 100 fly, and broke State Records in both of those races, plus the 50 free on a relay lead-off.

Molacek has speed-for-days and is incredibly versatile; his star really rose rapidly as a sophomore, when he whacked a whopping four seconds off of his best time in the 100 yard fly, and then another three seconds as a junior.

We had Molacek ranked in the top 20 in our class of 2014, but with the way he’s been improving, he’ll probably sit in the top 10 by the time he graduates. He’s certainly one of the best high school products of the state of Nebraska.

His best times:

  • 50 free – 20.20
  • 100 free – 44.91
  • 200 free – 1:37.29
  • 100 back – 50.13
  • 200 free – 1:47.68
  • 100 fly – 48.68
  • 100 breast – 55.05
  • 200 breast – 2:00.95
  • 200 IM – 1:48.47

He’s maybe initially thought of by most swim fans as a sprinter/butterflier type, but his breaststroke has come on in the last year to a point where that might be his focus at Auburn. Consider that in long course, he has been a 1:02.92 in the 100 breaststroke.

With a huge graduating class after this season, Auburn can use help in a lot of different places. They’re fairly well set on butterfly depth for now, which means Molacek may wind up focusing on the sprints (Auburn will graduate almost their entire free relays after this year) and the breaststrokes (they’re bringing in Josh Booth in this class as well). Regardless of where he winds up, he has the potential to be a huge asset for the team.

Molacek is very excited about his future at Auburn.

“I loved everything about Auburn. It has always been a dream of mine to be a part of such a special group. War eagle!!!” – Jacob Molacek

He has gone a 19.8 50 free in practice so he’s going to smash that 20.20

Congrats Jacob! That 100 Back time is a gross misrepresentation of his backstroke ability and he’s sub 1:50 in the 200 back. He led off CPs 2medley in a 22.2 at last years state meet, there’s lots more there in his sprint back.
