Breaststroker Jacob McCarran Hands Commitment to D3 Powerhouse MIT

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jacob McCarran of Sewickley, Pennsylvania has announced his commitment to swim and study at MIT for the fall of 2021.

McCarran recently graduated from North Allegheny Senior High School and competes for Racer X Aquatics. He is a multi-time USA Futures qualifier, specializing in the breaststroke events. At his most recent competition, the ISCA International Cup, McCarran was a finalist in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, posting yards times of 57.03 and 2:07.46, respectively.

Best Times SCY

  • 100 breaststroke – 55.97
  • 200 breaststroke – 2:05.53
  • 50 freestyle – 21.82

McCarran will be an immediate threat when he arrives on the MIT campus. With his best time in the 100 breaststroke, McCarran would have had the fastest time on MIT’s roster for the 2019-2020 season (the 2020-2021 season was canceled due to the pandemic). In addition, McCarran’s best time in the 200 breaststroke would have ranked 4th on MIT’s roster that same season. McCarran should also serve as a viable option to swim the breaststroke leg on MIT’s 400 medley relay, where Jordan Ren split 54.78.

MIT won the 2020 NEWMAC Conference Championships with a total of 1535 points. The school’s swimmers combined for 17 total event victories on the men’s side, dominating the competition. Although the 2020 NCAA Division III National Championships were canceled due to the pandemic, the MIT men placed 6th overall at the 2019 edition of the meet.

McCarran is set to join Jalen Evans, Roderick Huang, Owen Matteson, and Alex Podrez in MIT’s class of 2025.
