Luke Rohlen, a senior at Sacred Heart Preparatory in Atherton, California, will swim for Dartmouth College in the fall. Until January 2017, Rohlen was a full-time water polo player at Sacred Heart and Stanford Water Polo Club. He was a member of three CIF-Central Coast Section championship teams with SHP, and played on the 16u Junior Olympic National Championship team with his club.
Rohlen joined Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics to train under Tony Batis at the Rinconada facility in January 2017. His first-ever taper meet was at the 2017 CIF-Central Coast Section Championships last May. There he went 21.29 in the 50 free to take 5th, and 46.54 in the 100 free which landed him in 4th place. The next day he swam the 200 free for only the second time in his life at the walk-on meet, going a solid 1:43.08.
“The switch from water polo to swimming was challenging at first, but Tony has put me to work and things are beginning to click. I’m beginning to find my groove and learn how to properly race. I know what it takes to be an elite athlete and I’m fortunate that Coach Holder sees my potential in the pool and is willing to take me on as a project. I’m looking forward to helping build a dynamic and powerful program at Dartmouth and I’m beyond excited to continue my academic and athletic career at Dartmouth. Go Big Green!”
Last summer, Rohlen swam a 24.72 50m free and a 54.09 100m free at CA-NV Sectionals, and a 1:58.47 200m free at Futures.
