Day 4 of the Scottish National Age Groups Championships saw two stand out performances in the 200m butterfly from Tom Beeley and Ryan Brown.
Local boy Beeley and Marc Elrick of FIRST battled it out once more in the 16 years age category. Beeley got the better of Elrick in last night’s 100m and the Aberdeen ASC swimmer got the better of Elrick again in a very close fought race.
Beeley touched home to take gold in 2:06.18, with Elrick having to settle for silver again in a time of 2:07.52. Murray Coueslant of Aberdeen won bronze in 2:12.77.
The next race was equally as thrilling. Ryan Brown of Kelso continued to return to form and impress with a powerful display to take gold in 2:03.87. Calum Reid of Warrender won silver in 2:04.71. Felix Gifford from City of Aberdeen won bronze in 2:05.35.
Lexie Waller secured a hat-trick of backstroke titles adding the 100m gold to the 50m and 200m golds she won earlier in the meet. Waller (Hearts) lead from the off and the crowd were in no doubt who the winner was going to be, even before Waller turned for home. The 13 year old took victory in 1:05.59, which starts to close in on the age group record, the only one Waller doesn’t have.
Roisin Ramsay of Warrender had to settle for silver again in 1:08.92 and Anna Macfarlane of Hearts took the bronze in 1:09.96.
Waller also won gold in the 50m freestyle final.
Sean Craigmile of East Lothian won a brace of gold medals. His 200m backstroke final was paced to perfection with the 11 year old making a final charge around 10m from the wall. Craigmile snatched victory in 2:35.43. Evan Jones of Nuneaton/Bedford won silver in 2:36.45 and Douglas Kelly of Milngavie & Bearsden won the bronze medal in 2:36.64.
Earlier this afternoon Craigmile also took gold in the 400m freestyle, winning in a time of 4:50.65.
Scott McLay (Perth City), William Bell (City of Leicester), Gaia Alcaras (City of Aberdeen), Rosie Morgan (City of Aberdeen), Anna Fleming (City of Glasgow) all added to their medal collection with a brace of golds from today’s racing.
There were also a couple of age group records broken tonight. In the very first race of the final session, Mark Ford of South Lanarkshire broke the 11 years record for 200m butterfly, taking victory in 2:34.24. Douglas Kelly of Milngavie & Bearsden broke the 11 years record for 50m breaststroke with a time of 26.28.
