The Carmel Swim Club ran away with the combined team title at the Indiana Senior Long Course Championships in Indianapolis for the second straight summer. The program’s famed depth was on full display at the meet – they won the overall team title in spite of having no swimmers ranked among the top five point scorers of either gender, and in spite of not winning the girls’ nor the boys’ titles.

The crew included Molly Sweeney, who will head to the University of Tennessee in the fall. Sweeney swam a very light schedule with just one individual event in the meet: the 100 fly, which she won in a season best time of 1:00.71.
Sweeney is not entered in next week’s U.S. National Championship meet, but is likely targeting Junior Nationals instead.
Among the star performers who will be going to US Nationals from Indiana was Aidan Biddle, a rising senior at Ball State University.
Last year’s Missouri Valley Conference runner-up in yards, Biddle is the latest breaststroke breakout in a suddenly-deep American field in the sprint distances.
At this meet, he won the 50 meter distance in 27.91, the 100 meter distance in 1:02.10, and dropped more than 11 seconds off his best time to finish 4th in the 200 in 2:20.99.
In the 50, which is his only entry for Nationals, his previous best was just 29.13 done in 2024, while his previous best time in the 100 was 1:04.21, representing huge drops in both races.
He is the 22nd seed at Nationals in the 50 breaststroke.
Zach Drotar from the IU-Indianapolis breaststroke machine finished 2nd in the 100 in 1:03.61, a best time for him, and won the 200 in 2:17.91, which was another lifetime best.
Best times from Collegians ruled the meet on the men’s side. Purdue’s Dylan Burau won all three backstroke races, including best times of 55.89 in the 100 and 2:00.44 in the 200.
Indiana’s Brandon Fleck won the 200 free in 1:49.76 after finishing runner-up last year. That eight-tenths drop comes in the only event he’s entered in at Nationals this year.
The strength of the swims on the girls’ side mirrored that of the boys’. Ali Pearson, who recently completed her final season of eligibility at Indiana State, won the 50 breaststroke in a lifetime best of 32.07.
Pearson was the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference Champion in the 100 yard breaststroke.
Brenley Bonez from the Duneland Swim Club won four gold medals at the meet, including the other two breaststroke races. She won the 100 in 1:10.34 and the 200 in 2:35.47, both best times. In the 200, notably, she dropped more than four-and-a-half seconds off her previous personal best.
She also split 31.55 on a rolling start on the breaststroke leg of Duneland’s winning 200 medley relay.
Bonez is entering her junior year of high school in the fall as one of the top breaststroke commits in the country.
