The 2026 European Junior Championships came to a close yesterday from Munich, Germany, which means we now have a completed medal table from the thrilling six-day international event.
The Neutral Athletes of Russia were the overwhelming winners of the competition, owning 36 medals when all was said and done. Their total was comprised of 15 golds, three times the number of runners-up Italy, 10 silvers and 11 bronze.
Italy narrowly wound up ahead of Great Britain, capturing 14 medals, including 5 golds. Although GBR, too, acquired 14 medals and 5 golds, its deficit in the silver category rendered them the 3rd place squad.
Hungary and France wrapped up the top 5 finishing countries, with 19 nations earning at least one piece of hardware over the course of the week.
Compared to last year’s edition in Slovakia, Great Britain’s performance was taken down a notch. In 2025, GBR earned 9 golds, giving them the overall medal haul trophy. It’s important to note, however, that this year’s calendar also includes the Commonwealth Games and multiple swimmers here, including Theodora Taylor, left the competition early to prepare for that meet.
For a moment earlier this week, it appeared that Spain would be nowhere near its 3rd place finish from 2025. However, taking advantage of the final night of racing, the nation reaped an impressive five medals to surge ahead in the standings to ultimately place 6th overall.
