Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Czechia native Daniel Mitka has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at Georgia Tech beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news in an email to SwimSwam, writing:
I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the Georgia Institute of Technology. First, I want to thank my parents for supporting me from the beginning, allowing me to move on my own at the age of 16, and helping me chase my dreams. Thank you to Coach Shawn, Coach Todd, Coach Martina, Coach Sam, Ed, and Andrew for everything you have done for me. Lastly, special thank you to Coach Iago for giving me this opportunity, and to the whole Georgia Tech community for welcoming me. STING ‘EM!
Mitka is currently a rising senior at Denver East High School and trains year-round with the Hilltoppers club team, where he primarily specializes in breaststroke, IM, and sprint freestyle. He moved to the U.S. from the Czech Republic at 16, where he was involved with both swimming and lifesaving, including a stint at the Lifesaving World Championships.
“I came here by myself to chase my dream of swimming and studying in America, and it taught me how to be more independent, responsible, and confident. Being far away from home and my family was not always easy, but it helped me grow a lot as a person and as an athlete,” he expanded told SwimSwam.
Although the 2025-26 season saw Mitka’s first season swimming in a short course yards pool, he adjusted quickly and already boasts best times of 54.98/1:58.55 in the 100/200 breast, 1:47.43/3:52.71 in the 200/400 IM, and 20.65/45.84/1:39.49 in the 50/100/200 free. He set all of those personal bests at the Four Corners Speedo Sectional Championships at the end of March, where he made the top eight in the breaststrokes and IMs, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the 200 breast, and set his free PBs leading off relays.
Top SCY Times:
- 100 Breaststroke: 54.98
- 200 Breaststroke: 1:58.55
- 200 IM: 1:47.43
- 400 IM: 3:52.71
- 50 Freestyle: 20.65
- 100 Freestyle: 45.84
- 200 Freestyle: 1:39.49
A Division I program, Georgia Tech competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with the men’s team placing 12th out of 15 teams at this past season’s conference championships. To earn a second swim at the meet, times of 52.95/1:56.17 in the 100/200 breast, 1:44.99/3:48.98 in the 200/400 IM, and 19.46/42.67/1:34.69 in the 50/100/200 free were needed, putting him outside the cutoffs, though he still has a full season to go before even arriving on campus.
Mitka joins Liam Drake, George Groves, and Charley Sutorus in committing to the Yellow Jackets’ class of 2031 so far.
