Mary-Sophie Harvey Scratches 200 IM Final at Canadian Trials Due to Illness

2026 Canadian Swimming Trials

Mary-Sophie Harvey has announced she will be scratching the 200 IM final tonight along with the remainder of the meet due to illness.

In a story posted to her Instagram, Harvey said “Unfortunately, I’ve had to withdraw from tonight’s 200 IM final.

I’ve been dealing with some health issues since the start of the meet and have been doing everything I could to push through. After discussing it with my family, coaches, and the medical staff at Swimming Canada, we all felt that prioritizing my health was the right decision.

I’m really disappointed, especially because I was hoping to finish this meet on a better note. Thank you to everyone who has supported and cheered me on all week, and to Swimming Canada for their support throughout this difficult time. I wish I could have given you one last race that reflected the level I know I’m capable of.

Thank you for understanding. Now it’s time to focus on recovering.”

Harvey finished 2nd in the 200 IM prelims, stopping the clock in 2:15.22 to be just one hundredth behind Ella Jansen‘s 2:15.21 in 1st.

With Summer McIntosh withdrawing from the meet yesterday, also due to illness, the 200 IM event win is wide open and would have been an excellent opportunity to qualify for the Pan Pacs team as the event winner, since Harvey has not yet earned a priority 1-3 qualification. She finished 2nd in the 200 fly, and could be added to the team as priority 4, depending on how qualification shakes out.

She scratched the 100 free, 1500 free, 100 fly, throughout the meet already. She swam the 200 fly, finishing 2nd (2:10.25), and the 400 IM (4:43.26). She is still entered in the 100 breaststroke tomorrow, but will likely be scratching that as well.

I would guess that pulling out with illness also gives an excuse to add her under the unforseen circumstances clause if they need to unless the squad is completly filled under 1-3. Bumping someone who actually hit an A time would suck but I wouldn’t be surprised if they bump her to the top of the Q4 pile.

Was pretty obvious she was not 100%. She’s usually always pretty solid and her level has been pretty off all meet. Hopefully she gets a Q4 selection.
