Australian swimmer Cody Simpson hung up his goggles after not making the nation’s 2024 Olympic Games squad but life for the 27-year-old hasn’t exactly been easy out of the pool.
Taking to Instagram recently, the pop singer informed his followers that he has been dealing with not one, but two injuries since returning to his musical roots. One involves his vocal cord and the other was a dislocated knee.
Simpson said, “The universe is serving it to me this year! An update on where I’ve been: I’ve been on and off vocal rest for close to 3 months trying to heal a damaged vocal cord. We decided to operate to aid the recovery, then I dislocated my knee rehearsing for a new music video and we had to push surgery back to let my knee settle.”
He continued, “I can’t walk or talk for some time now, and no singing or dancing for months to come. I’ve been pushing my body and mind for years now non-stop and I’m taking time to reflect and understand this for what it is: forced rest. The album and live shows have to wait, but I’ve got some work to share while I’m down for the count. You can’t hold me down! I’ll be back stronger.”
A rising age group swimming star within Australia, Simpson took a break from the sport to pursue his music career before deciding in 2019 to return to the pool.
He represented the nation at the 2022 Commonwealth Games where he earned two medals, gold in the men’s 4x100m free relay and silver in the men’s 4x100m medley relay, as a prelims swimmer.
Simpson missed qualifying for 2024 Olympic Games and announced retirement shortly thereafter.
