Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Great Britain’s Reuben Alty, a competitor at the 2025 European Juniors, has announced his commitment to swim for Purdue University beginning in the fall of 2026.
“I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Purdue University! A huge thank you to Coach Alex for this opportunity, and to my family, coaches, teammates, and friends for all their support along the way. I can’t wait to be a Boilermaker. Boiler Up!”
A freestyle specialist from Ipswich, England, Alty currently trains with Millfield School in Somerset but has also represented Larne Swimming Club in Northern Ireland. He turned in a strong showing at the 2026 Irish Open & Commonwealth Championships (LCM), posting lifetime best performances in two events. He placed 10th in the 200 free (1:54.48 – SB) and 11th in both the 50 free (23.08 – PB) and 100 free (50.80).
A few weeks later, Alty raced at the 2026 Aquatics GB Championships (LCM) in April, where he turned in another series of fast swims. He took 4th in the men’s junior 50 free (23.12) and 5th in the men’s junior 100 free (50.40), logging a new personal best time in the 100 free.
Alty’s top time in the 200 free still stands from the 2025 Irish Open Championships (LCM), when he threw down a lifetime best time of 1:53.98 to mark his only sub-1:54 performance to date.
Alty competed at the 2025 LEN European Junior Championships (LCM) last summer; he contested the 50 free (23.83) and 100 free (52.96).
Best Times LCM (SCY Conversion)
- 50 free – 23.08 (20.07)
- 100 free – 50.40 (43.96)
- 200 free – 1:53.98 (1:39.80)
A Division I program, Purdue competes in the Big Ten Conference, with the men’s team taking 6th at this past season’s conference championships. The Boilermakers sent seven athletes to compete at the NCAA Division I Men’s Championship in March, where they finished 29th overall.
Based on the results from the 2026 Big Ten Conference Championships, Alty would have landed in the ‘C’ final in the 50 free and been just outside the cutoff in the 100 free with his projected converted times.
On the team itself, Alty is currently poised to rank 3rd in the 50 free and 4th in the 100 free, putting him in a position to be a strong contributor for Purdue, although that does not account for the other incoming freshmen.
Alty is not the only English swimmer heading to Indiana this fall, as Aran Bissett from Crowborough also committed to Purdue.
In addition to Bissett, Alty will be joined in Purdue’s class of 2030 by Pablo Pareja from Illinois and Luca Scampicchio from Italy, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
