Night Four of the 2026 French Elite Championships saw five men and one woman added to the list for the European Championships, with the French men also picking up a 4×200 freestyle relay qualifying time after missing the 4×100 time earlier this week.
Here’s a quick rundown of the selection procedure for this meet before we get into the roster update after the 4th day.
- The top four swimmers at the meet may be selected to the meet, provided they earn the French qualifying standard in the ‘A’ final at the French Elite Championships
- Subject to availability, athletes who swam qualifying times at the French Junior Championships may be selected to the team
- For the women’s, men’s, and mixed freestyle relays, selection will be proposed for the top four swimmers from the A-final whose combined individual performances meet the required relay time. The times recorded in the heats may be considered to validate the relay time.
The women’s meet saw Pauline Mahieu added to the roster after she swam 59.57 to finish 2nd in the women’s 100 backstroke. She finished behind Mary-Ambre Moluh who set a new French record en route to earning her 2nd individual event qualification and just ahead of Beryl Gastaldello, who finished 3rd to earn her 3rd individual event.
On the men’s side, Carl Aitkaci bounced back from his very close miss in the men’s 100 breaststroke, swimming 27.21 to win the men’s 50 breaststroke and undercut the qualifying time by nine hundredths. He also has the qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke from prelims and will be able to swim both events.
The French men also qualified an 800 freestyle relay for the meet with the top four finishers in the event of Sauveur Cristofini, Roman Fuchs, Pierre Largeron, and Neo Dutriaux swimming an aggregate time of 7:09.43, half-a-second under the qualifying time of 7:10.00.
Cristofini and Fuchs also qualified for the 200 freestyle individually.
