Two-time Virginia high school state champion Ben Franks has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at Georgetown University beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my athletic and academic careers at Georgetown University! First, I want to thank my family for their unwavering support throughout this process! Secondly, I want to thank my NOVA coaches—Coach Mike and Coach Alex—for their dedication and helping shape me as an athlete. Special shout out to Coach Moss for your mentorship and pushing me to be better everyday! Lastly, thank you to Coach John and the entire Georgetown coaching staff for giving me this incredible opportunity! I’m looking forward to what’s ahead 😈😈!! HOYA SAXA!!
A rising senior at St. Christopher’s School in Richmond, Franks has competed for the school’s team since his freshman season. In addition to representing the Saints, he currently trains year-round with NOVA of Virginia Aquatics, where he primarily specializes in breaststroke and IM while also having a strong freestyle. He’s coming off a strong 2025-26 season that saw make some big improvements:
| Event | 2024-2025 Best | 2025-2026 Best |
| 100 Breaststroke | 56.77 | 55.62 |
| 200 Breaststroke | 2:02.30 | 2:02.84 |
| 100 Freestyle | 47.30 | 46.55 |
| 200 Freestyle | 1:40.75 | 1:40.06 |
| 200 IM | 1:52.67 | 1:51.34 |
| 400 IM | 3:58.72 | 3:55.63 |
On the high school scene, Franks has qualified for the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) State Championships each year of his career so far. This past February, he helped St. Christopher win the 200 medley relay (21.20 anchor) and 200 free relay (21.37 split), while also finishing second in the 200 free (1:41.40) and fourth in the 100 breast (57.06).
Franks’ top meet of the season came at the Virginia Senior Championships in March, where he threw down the majority of his current lifetime bests. He made ‘A’ finals in all of his primary events, third in both the 100 breast (55.62) and 200 breast (2:02.84), fourth in the 200 free (1:40.06), eighth in the 100 free (46.81). His times in all were PBs except the 200 breast which was a season best, he set his PB of 2:02.30 at the 2025 iteration of the meet.
Franks ended the season at the NCSA Spring Championships a few weeks later; though he added time in the majority of his top events, he threw down a 3:55.63 in the 400 IM en route to placing 17th, his first time making the top 25 in an individual event at the competition.
Based on his current lifetime bests, Franks is slated to have an immediate impact for Georgetown, who is coming off a team title at the 2026 Big East Conference Championships. Franks’ current personal bests would have placed sixth in the 200 breast and 400 IM, eighth in the 100 breast, 10th in the 200 free, and 16th in the 200 IM, and he still has two full seasons of training to potentially improve before lining up at his first conference meet.
Franks joins Maxx Vazirani and Dylan Stewart in committing to Georgetown’s class of 2031 so far.
