Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Making his way up the eastern seaboard next year, Maryland native Kirk Morgan has committed to swim for Boston College, starting in the fall of 2027. The recent Speedo Sectionals – Richmond event winner spoke about his decision, stating,
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Boston College! I would like to thank my family, friends and coaches for getting me to this point. I would also like to thank Coach Torres and Coach Bruno for this opportunity. Go Eagles
!”
Representing All Star Aquatics at last month’s meet in Richmond, Morgan earned himself a Junior Nationals cut in the 100 fly, courtesy of his 100 fly win. In prelims, Morgan hit the wall 2nd, with a personal best of 56.11, but was not content with such a mark, as he took the win later that night, resetting his hours-old best to 55.27, using a strong backhalf to run down the top seed in the closing meters.
The 100 fly was not his lone success in Richmond, as Morgan rewrote his record board in every event. He finished 5th in the prelims of the 200 Fly (2:05.72), 6th in the 200 free prelims (1:55.79), and 9th in the prelims of the 200 IM (2:09.56). While he ultimately scratched the finals of all three events, he did drop from 52.76 in the free to a final result of 52.57, finishing 5th overall. Before the meet, his PB in the 100 was in the 54 range, so Morgan completely missed 53 seconds, but he was not content with the results as later on in the meet he led off All Star Aquatics 400 free relay in a new PB of 52.40, helping his team finish 2nd overall, with Nick Roscetti, Seth Burger and Charlie Penn rounding out the silver medal winning performance.
It’s not just with All Star Aquatics that Morgan has turned heads, as he also competes for his high school, Gonzaga College High School. At the DCSAA Championships last February, Morgan made the final in two events, placing 2nd in the 500 free at 4:58.24 and 4th in the 200 IM at 2:03.24. Neither was a personal best, but he didn’t appear to have been rested, as just a month later, at the Potomac Valley Open Championships, Morgan won the 500 free in 4:32.34, a drop of over 20 seconds from his previous best.
Best SCY Times:
- 100 Free – 45.13
- 200 Free – 1:38.50
- 500 Free – 4:32.34
- 100 Fly – 48.55
- 200 Fly – 1:46.82
Boston College is coming off a strong performance at ACCs, where, despite finishing 15th out of 15 teams, they walked away from the meet with four school records, resetting the 100 fly and 100 free marks, as well as the 200 and 400 free relay records. While the ACC is one of the deepest and strongest college conferences, and Morgan’s times are outside of scoring range (his 200 fly best would rank him 33rd), his arrival at Chestnut Hill will certainly be a boon to the Eagles.
The Dara Torres-led program had two swimmers under the 1:40 barrier in the 200 free, with Finn Crawford‘s 1:38.71 leading the way in 65th place. Morgan with a PB of 1:38.50 would have been the school’s highest place finisher and would have been the school’s 2nd fastest swimmer, behind only Palmer Bice‘s 1:37.89 from their mid-season meet.
While Crawford, a rising senior, will have left campus by 2027, Bice is just a rising sophomore and will have some overlap with Morgan; the pair will make strong training partners, building on their connection from high school, as Bice also attended Gonzaga College High School. In fact, with the exception of Crawford, all the other legs of BC’s 800 free relay at ACC were first-years, meaning the relay is likely to be even more competitive a year from now.
Morgan is the only commit so far for BC in the class of 2027, but the Eagles have a seven-swimmer-strong class this year, including Demir Ayrikaya, a finalist at Turkey’s Inter-club Championships, and Tennessee state champion Quincy Topping.
