Winter Juniors Qualifier Nick Shalhoub Sends Verbal To William & Mary For 2026-27

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Winter Juniors qualifier Nick Shalhoub has announced his verbal commitment to swim for The College of William & Mary beginning in the fall of 2026. He publicized the news in an email to SwimSwam, writing:

I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at William and Mary! I want to thank Coach Nate and Coach Mike for giving me this opportunity. I also want to thank my coaches, my parents, and my teammates who have helped me along the way. Go Tribe!!

The North Carolina native is wrapping up his senior year at Green Hope High School, where he swam for the varsity swimming and diving team all four years. Shalhoub also trains year-round with the TAC Titans, where he specializes in backstroke, IM, and middle-distance freestyle.

Shalhoub qualified for Winter Juniors – East for the first time this past December, finishing 91st in the 400 IM (4:03.78), 93rd in the 200 back (1:51.69), and 106th in the 100 back (51.98).

At the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 8A State Championships two months later, his first year advancing to the meet, Shalhoub made a pair of ‘A’ finals in the middle-distance freestyle events. He grabbed bronze in the 500 free (4:35.91) and finished sixth in the 200 free (1:42.39), both personal bests at the time, while also helping Green Hope take fourth in the 400 free relay (47.34 split) and sixth in the 200 free relay (22.09 split) as the team finished fourth overall.

Last month, Shalhoub posted a string of lifetime best performances at the Speedo Sectionals in Cary. He placed fifth in the 200 back (1:46.62) and 400 IM (3:56.98) and 10th in the 100 back (50.49) and 500 free (4:33.09), which all stand as his current career bests.

Over the past 12 months, Shalhoub has dropped seven seconds in the 400 IM, over five seconds in the 500 free, nearly three seconds in the 200 back, over two seconds in the 200 free, and over half a second in the 100 back, a trajectory that bodes well as he prepares to make the jump to collegiate swimming. The 200 IM could be an event to watch as well, with his best of 2:00.03 dating back two years and never having been swum at a tapered meet.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 Backstroke: 50.49
  • 200 Backstroke: 1:46.62
  • 200 IM: 2:00.03
  • 400 IM: 3:56.98
  • 200 Freestyle: 1:42.39
  • 500 Freestyle: 4:33.09

A Division I Mid-Major program, William & Mary competes in the Coastal Athletic Association, where the men’s team recently placed fourth out of five teams at last month’s conference championships. Shalhoub’s best times in the backstrokes and 400 IM would have made the ‘B’ finals; he’s not far off the times of 1:45.65 and 3:55.71 needed to make the ‘A’ finals in the 200 back and 400 IM, either.

With the 400 IM and 100 back scheduled close together at the conference meet, Shalhoub may swim the 500 free (or 200 IM) as his third event, since the 200 free also overlaps with the 400 IM and 100 back. It took a time of 4:32.62 to make the ‘B’ final and score points in 2026, less than half a second off his current lifetime best.

On the team’s projected 2026-27 depth chart, factoring in graduations and other incoming recruits, Shalhoub is slated to rank second in the 200 back and 400 IM, fifth in the 500 free, seventh in the 100 back, 12th in the 200 free, and 17th in the 200 IM, bringing added depth to the roster.

Joining Shalhoub in Williamsburg in the fall are Parker Saltsman (back/IM), Wyatt Ball (fly/middle-distance free),  Nethaniel Mester (breast), William Finucane-Tuccio (sprint free/fly), Jack Tarte (sprint free/fly), Kyle Spaman (breast), and Brayden King (distance free).
