Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Ana Diedrichs of Heber City, Utah, has decided to stay in-state with her commitment to continue her academic and swimming career at the University of Utah. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Utah. I want to thank all of the coaches at the University of Utah for this opportunity, my coaches at Wasatch for guiding me, and for my family who has always believed in me! GO UTES!
Diedrichs is currently in the midst of her senior year at Wasatch High School, where she has been a member of the varsity swim team since her freshman year. Outside of the high school season, she swims with Wasatch Swim Club, where she specializes in sprint freestyle and backstroke.
Over the past year, Diedrichs has shaved time across all of her primary events. She dropped from 55.78 to 53.99 in the 100 back and from 51.91 to 50.61 in the 100 free, while also improving from 2:04.52 to 2:03.13 in the 200 back and 24.26 to 24.06 in the 50 free.
Her best times came at three different meets: the 100 free (50.61) at the Utah 5A State meet in February, the 50 free (24.06) at a sectional meet in March, and both backstroke times (53.99/2:03.17) at December’s Winter Junior Championships West, her first time qualifying for the meet. At Winter Juniors, she placed 12th in the 100 back, 71st in the 200 back, and 104th in the 100 free.
Diedrichs is the two-time reigning Utah 5A State champion in the 100 free and finished as the runner-up in the 100 back last February after earning bronze as a sophomore. She has made the ‘A’ final in that event at all three state meets, placing fourth as a freshman. As a freshman, she also placed 14th in the 200 IM.
Heading into her final state meet in a few weeks’ time, Diedrichs will look to defend her 100 free title and improve on her runner-up finish in the 100 back.
Top SCY Times:
- 50 Freestyle: 24.06
- 100 Freestyle: 50.61
- 100 Backstroke: 53.99
- 200 Backstroke: 2:03.37
The conference meet scores ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’ finals. Diedrichs’ lifetime best in the 100 back would have made the ‘B’ final last season, while she’s only 13 hundredths off the 50.48 needed for the ‘C’ final in the 100 free. The qualifying times for a second swim in the 50 free and 200 back were 23.17 and 1:59.84, respectively.
On the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Diedrichs would have ranked third in the 100 back, fifth in the 100 free and 200 back, and ninth in the 50 free. With several upperclassmen having graduated or set to graduate in May, she’ll have opportunities to contribute immediately in dual meets.
Diedrichs is part of a recruiting class that positions Utah to rebuild its sprint department. She joins Elena Amos, Linnea Florin, and Avery Whorton in the Utes’ class of 2030. Amos brings sprint freestyle times of 23.40 and 51.25 along with 100 back and 100 fly bests of 55.07 and 55.48. Florin adds depth with 23.68 and 51.36 in the sprint free events plus a 54.93 in the 100 fly. Whorton rounds out the class as a distance swimmer strong in freestyle, IM, and fly.
Together, Amos, Diedrichs, and Florin will form the foundation of Utah’s sprint freestyle relays and provide strong options across the medley relays during their time in Salt Lake City.
