LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 28, 2018) – Wyoming swimming and diving hosted the annual Brown and Gold Alumni Meet Friday evening inside Corbett Pool. The highlight of the night was the Cowboys hanging their 2018 Western Athletic Conference championship banner. To end the night the gold team came out victorious with a score of 421-265.

The banner was raised by the Cowboys team from last season. In addition members of the 1959 Skyline Conference Championship team also raised their banner inside Corbett Pool. Over 100 alumni were on hand and nearly 40 participated in events.

“We had some surprises today on the men’s and the women’s side but I think the overall theme of this meet was that we had a lot of fun,” said Head Coach Dave Denniston.

The gold team won 26 of 36 events throughout the meet highlighted by wins in the butterfly, freestyle and breaststroke. In the women’s 400 Yard IM the gold team took the top two spots with help from Catri Clarke in first place with a time of 4:45.70 and Shannon Chelsvig taking second place in 4:58.59.

In the men’s 50-yard butterfly, Brayden Love and Jack Scafuri had the top two spots for the gold team with times of 23.35 and 23.90. Earning another top two spots for the gold team was Jack Herron and Ryan Netzel with times of 1:44.60 and 1:44.75 in the men’s 200-yard freestyle.

Phoebe Brown and Hannah Linde posted first and second place finishes for the gold team in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke with times of 1:07.70 and 1:09.52, respectively. Also earning first and second place honors for the gold team in the women’s 200-yard butterfly was Hannah McLean-Leonard and Erin Eccleston with their times of 2:10.45 and 2:11.76.

In the one-meter board on the women’s side, Peyton GrandPre took first place for the brown team with a score of 268.95. On the men’s side, Ryan Russi posted a score of 316.27 to earn first place for the gold team. In the 3-meter dive, GrandPre earned first place for the brown team with her score of 97.50. For the gold team, Russi took first place in the men’s 3-meter dive with a score of 103.50.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 for the DU Relays. The meet is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT in Denver.
