Sam Lofstrom, a Fort Collins, Colo., native who swims for Team Vortex and attends Rocky Mountain High School, has verbally committed to join the Georgia Bulldogs’ men’s team for the fall of 2026.
Lofstrom was featured in the “Best of the Rest” section of SwimSwam’s ranking of the top 20 recruits in the boys’ high school class of 2026.

Lofstrom nabbed his first individual Colorado 5A State championship title in May when he touched in 19.99 in the 50 freestyle. That swim improved upon his 2024 finish when he finished 2nd in 20.35. He also finished 4th in the 100 butterfly, clocking 48.53.
The Speedo Junior National Championships (LCM) proved to be a very successful meet for Lofstrom, where earlier this summer, he finished 6th overall in the 50 fly, clocking a lifetime best 24.42. He also marked new best times in the 50 free (23.14), 100 free (52.23), and 100 fly (54.93).
Lofstrom had another productive outing at the Speedo Sectionals in Austin in March. His 100 free marked a new top time for him, touching in 44.79. Additionally, Lofstrom cloaked his fastest 200 free performance in 1:39.17.
His fastest ever 50 free came at Speedo Winter Junior Championships- West, when he clocked 19.93, which marked his first time he ever swam sub-20 seconds.

The Georgia men finished 4th at the 2025 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships. Based on Lofstrom’s best times, he would have tied for 41st in the 50 free, 56th in the 100 free, and 50th in the 200 free.
With still a year to develop, Lofstrom could rapidly ascend to a scoring position for the Bulldogs.
His 100 free progression suggests that there is a strong chance that he can get to that scoring level. In the span of just under 11 months, Lofstrom went from 45.36 to his current best of 44.79. If he were to stay on that track year over year, he could be well into the 43.5 range by the end of his freshman season.
The SEC is a loaded sprint freestyle conference; the SEC had five NCAA ‘A’ finalists last season in the 100 free, four in the 50 free, and six of the top 10 fastest times in the nation in the 50 free. But with his current times, he has the foundation of a good collegiate career.
Last season, Lofstrom was named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.
Lofstrom will join Maddex Ternes, Kris Mihaylov, and Nicholas Kwan in the Bulldog’s 2026 recruiting class.
