17th European Open Water Swimming Cup Series Kicks off Friday

The 2014 season of the European Open Water Swimming Cup is slated to launch this Friday, April 25th, in Eilat Israel with at 10K race.   There are a total of 6 legs on the tour. Which will run throughout the spring and summer months.

LEG 1: Eilat Israel April 25 – 10km

LEG 2: Balatonfured Hungary June 21 – 10km

LEG 3: Istanbul Turkey July 5 – 5km

LEG 4: Hoorn Netherlands August 2 – 10km

LEG 5: Navia Spain August 9 – 7.5km

FINAL: Castellabate ItalySeptember 13-14 – 10km + 5km

There is a total of 21,000 Euro in prize money that will be distributed amongst the top 5 men and women based upon final point standings. In order to be eligible for the prize money swimmers must compete in at least 3 legs and the final.

The first stop has 32 women and 34 men on the start lists. Although the start lists is includes many of Europe’s top younger open water swimmers, the women’s field will be highlighted by 2012 Olympic gold medalist Eva Ristov of Hungary.

The 2013 series titles went to Germany’s Andreas Waschberger and Hungary’s Anna Olasz.

This series will undoubtedly give the strong European open water swimmers ample opportunities to hone their skills as we move into the final two years before the 2016 Olympics.

This is maybe a stupid question, but do they still allow full-length suits in Open Water swimming? Or is that just an older photo?
