In the proposal-of-the-year, and one that frankly everyone saw coming, USA Swimming National Team member Matt Grevers proposed to his girlfriend, National Team member Annie Chandler, from atop the podium on Saturday night at the Missouri Grand Prix.

Grevers, after winning the men’s 100 backstroke title in 53.57, asked Annie to marry him, and she responded with a resounding “yes”.

Grevers and Chandler have been dating for years, as the pair trains together at Tucson Ford, and are one of USA Swimming’s power couples. Grevers put up quite an impressive swim considering the nerves that were awaiting him when he finished, in the form of a true professional.

Subplot is whether or not their future children will swim or play basketball: Grevers stands about 6’8, and Chandler is about 6’3.

This puts the pressure on to two other National Team couples: Ricky Berens and Michael Klueh (Rebecca Soni and Emily Brunemann, respectively).

USA Swimming posted this video of the event:

grevers and shanteau had the best performance, but the story of the meet was the almost 15 yr old swimming sub 410 and 830. how much can she improve by the trials ?

According to Omega’s heat sheets from last year, Ledecky’s birthday is March 17, and she’ll be a just-turned 15 for juniors this year. (March 20-24, 2012)

Ok, the story is great.
Back to the sport. Matt Grevers swam very well his 100 back. He becomes very consistent in 53 seconds. He’s perhaps now the best chance for an american to bright in this race. It’s clearly his best chance to qualify individually for the next olympic games. He has all to shine in this race. He has the size, underwaters and he has very well improved his back-half with his work in the 200 back. He can swim under 52.50 this summer.
Very good race for Eric Shanteau. He has taken speed and it’s very important for him.
I’m french so I must write about Laure Manaudou. She had a disappointing 200 free… Read more »

Most interesting result I see on day two is Katie Ledecky’s 4:09.3 in the 400 free. Omega says she’s got a mid-March birthday, so she might have one or two more chances to take down Sippy Woodhead’s 4:07.1 13-14 NAG record.

I wonder what the future child(ren)’s best stroke will be…pretty sure it’ll be one of the sprints.
