Hannah Moore’s Two Golds Named by USOC Among 14 Highlights of 2014 Youth Olympics

While the male team continued to struggle in swimming at the second edition of the Youth Olympic Games, held in 2014 in Nanjing, China, the girls’ team had an easier go with three individual gold medals.

That included a pair from swimmer Hannah Moore, who won both the 400 free (4:11.05) and tied for the win in the 200 back (2:10.42), and the other added by Clara Smiddy (1:01.22).

Moore was the second highlight of that meet named in a recent USOC “top 14 of 2014” story, and as a highlight of Team USA’s 10-gold medal performance across all sports in Nanjing (an improvement from only 4 won in 2010).

  • Kendall Yount wins takewondo gold after carrying Team USA flag.
  • Starting with a Medal – Stephanie Jenks opens Youth Olympics with gold in triathlon on day 1
  • First Rhythmic Gymnastics Medal for Team USA – Laura Zeng gets bronze in individual all-around: Team USA’s first rhythmic gymnastics medal at Youth or regular Olympic Games
  • Grappling for Silver – All three American wrestlers come home with a silver medal
  • Passing it to the Next Generation – four former Olympians on Team USA coaching staff.
  • Cultural Exchange – Alex Yoder wins men’s gymnastics all-around bronze hours after attending cultural-exchange cooking program.
