Duke Women Add Another Facet to Class With Distance Recruit Kampfer

The Duke women have continued their recruiting rampage with another verbal commitment from a U.S. Nationals qualifier: Brittany Kampfer from Irvine Novaquatics.

“I’ve chosen Duke because I feel that the team has something special – that despite their workload of both academics and swimming, they take the time to hang out with each other and be a real team,” Kampfer said. “I’m so proud to be a part of the Blue Devil family!”

Kampfer adds another facet to a well-rounded and versatile Blue Devil class that has now grown to 5 public commitments. She’s the first distance swimmer of the 6 women who have publicly committed to the group.

Kampfer’s best times in yards:

  • 100 free – 52.88
  • 200 free – 1:50.48
  • 500 free – 4:47.56
  • 1000 free – 9:51.13
  • 1650 free – 16:26.44

Duke has improved in nearly every part of its program in the last 3-4 years, but was still without an A or B finalist at last year’s ACC Championships.

Kampfer’s best times in the 500, 1000, and 1650 frees are already well faster than Duke’s best swimmers from last year. She’ll join a training group that includes current freshman Brittany Kahn (already a 16:21 miler) and current sophomore Verity Abel (Duke’s best distance swimmer last year).

Kampfer has transferred from Mater Dei High School and will finish her career at Crean Lutheran – the runners-up at last year’s inaugural CIF State Championship meet. That means that she will still be in the CIF’s Southern Section, but will move to Division II from her former spot in Division I, where she was the runner-up in the 500 free last year. Kampfer opted to not swim at the CIF State Championship meet last year.
