#17 Commit Brad Zdroik Breaks the Ice for Stanford Men

Brad Zdroik from the Somerset Valley YMCA in New Jersey has verbally committed to the Stanford Cardinal, marking a splashy entry into the recruiting market in the class of 2015.

Zdroik is primarily a freestyler, with enough speed for good results in the sprint fly and sprint backstroke events as well.

In yards:

  • 50 free – 20.32
  • 100 free – 44.74
  • 200 free – 1:38.50
  • 100 back – 48.88
  • 100 fly – 49.99
  • 200 IM – 1:51.91
  • 400 IM – 3:58.91

He placed 3rd at the 2014 YMCA Short Course National Championships in the 50 free (the fastest non-senior), and held the same 3rd-place position in long course.

With David Nolan’s graduation, the addition of new top-tier swimmers like Zdroik are crucial for Stanford’s future. Zdroik is the #17 recruit in the class of 2015, and can contribute in all 5 relays. Relay depth is where this program has struggled in the last few years. That situation will get even more dire next season: four of their six best 100 freestylers are seniors.

Zdroik attends Hillsborough High School, for whom he was 2nd in the 50 free and 3rd in the 100 free at the 2013-2014 New Jersey State Championship meet.
