UNC Adds Summer Juniors Qualifier and NAG Record Holder Maddy Boland For 2027

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Summer Juniors qualifier and NAG Record holder Maddy Boland has verbally committed to the University of North Carolina for the recruiting class of 2027.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill! I want to thank my friends and family for always encouraging and supporting me. A huge thank you to Coach Dave and Coach Sean at MSA and all my coaches at WRATS. Lastly, thank you Coach Mark and the entire UNC coaching staff for this amazing opportunity.

Go Heels!!! 🩵🩵🐏”

Boland is from Waxhaw, North Carolina where she swims for the Mecklenburg Swim Association and attends Providence Day School.

At the 2025 NCISAA Division I State Championships, Boland swam the 50 free, finishing 3rd in 23.58, and the 100 free, where she finished 7th in 52.54.

In March, Boland swam at the GA SA Best of the South meet, where she swam on the Mecklenburg Swim Association relay that broke the National Age Group Record in the 15-18 200 medley relay.

Boland swam the freestyle leg on the relay, splitting 22.70 to bring the team home in 1:32.18, exactly a second faster than the previous record time of 1:33.18.

She also swam the individual 50 free (23.40), 100 free (50.90), 200 free (1:55.53), 100 back (57.98), 100 fly (56.90), and 200 IM (2:15.64). Her 100 fly and 100 free times were new personal best swims.

Over the summer, Boland swam at the Speedo Summer Junior National Championships, participating in the 50 free, 100 free, 50 back, and 50 fly after earning a qualifying time in the 50 free (26.28) in May.

Personal Best Times SCY

  • 50 free- 23.29
  • 100 free- 50.90
  • 200 free- 1:51.49
  • 100 back- 57.41
  • 100 fly- 56.90

UNC competes in the ACC and the women finished 6th at last year’s ACC Conference meet which saw the additions of Stanford and Cal for the first time last season.

Boland has two more years in high school before she will arrive on campus in Chapel Hill. Last season, she would have been in the top 10 on the UNC team in the 50 and 100 freestyle events with her 50 free ranking 9th overall, just one hundredth behind current senior Lindy Bilden.

In order to score at the ACC Championships, Boland will need to drop to 22.41 in the 50 free, 48.72 in the 100 free, 1:46.56 in the 200 free, 53.18 in the 100 back, and 52.69 in the 100 fly. She has been on a steady improvement curve, dropping about half-a-second in her 50 free and a little over a second in her 100 free last year.
