Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Tiffany Murillo from Medellin, Colombia, has signed to swim at the University of North Carolina beginning in the fall of 2026. Last month, she wrote on SwimCloud:

I’m very excited to announce my academic and athletic commitment to UNC Chapel Hill!! I’m grateful for my family, coaches and friends who helped me through this journey, and I’m thrilled for what’s to come. Go Heels!!

Murillo swims for the club team Natación Envigado and attends Unicab School. She’s a middle-distance freestyle specialist who competes in events from the 200 to the mile.

All of her best times have come within the past 14 months. In short course meters, she’s been as quick as 1:59.04 in the 200 free and 4:09.94 in the 400 free (both from October 2024). In long course meters, her bests are 2:01.81 (200 free), 4:14.58 (400 free), and 16:26.60 (1500 free), all set in 2025.

While all of Murillo’s lifetime bests have come at local club meets, she’s also competed on the international stage, representing Colombia at the past three long course World Junior Championships and the 2024 Short Course World Championships.

Making her World Juniors debut in 2022, she placed 14th in the 1500 free (17:41.04), 16th in the 800 free (9:18.92), 17th in the 200 free (2:07.13), and 21st in the 100 free (59.46). The following year, she improved to 14th in both the 800 (8:51.85) and 1500 (17:03.82),while finishing 20th in the 400 (4:20.98) and 21st in the 200 (2:04.32). Last August, she wrapped up her junior career with her best-ever finish in the 400 free, taking 15th (4:17.04), as well as 18th in the 200 free (2:03.01).

At Short Course Worlds, she finished 24th in the 400 free (4:11.00) and 26th in the 200 free (1:59.96).

When converting her best times to short course yards, they come out to:

  • 200 Freestyle: 1:59.04/2:01.81 (1:47.24/1:46.85)
  • 400 Freestyle: 4:09.94/4:14.58 (4:45.64/4:45.24)
  • 1650 Freestyle: NT/16:26.60 (NT/16:07.25)

It’s important to note that converted times are approximations and not 100% accurate, but they help provide perspective on how Murillo’s performances could translate to the shorter pool.

Under the direction of head coach Mark Gangloff, the Tar Heel women finished sixth out of 15 teams at the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships. The conference meet offers ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ finals, and times of 1:46.56, 4:46.77, and 16:41.35 were needed to score last season.

On the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Murillo’s converted times would have ranked first in the mile, second in the 500, and fifth in the 200, with her 500 and mile times fast enough to score at last year’s meet. Assuming she adjusts well to short course yards, she’ll be valuable across individual events at dual meets and at ACCs, where she could also contribute to the 800 free relay as an underclassman.

Murillo joins UNC’s 2030 recruiting class that includes Cate Pawlaski (breast/IM), Nehir Oner (fly/IM), Morgan Farlow (breast/IM), Defne Tanig (fly), and Kenzie Sellars (sprint free).
